International Photography Exhibition “Il Mattone Rampante”, 2nd edition
The Street Boulder Italia Association , supported by the Torino 2010 European Youth Capital, Città di Torino, Regione Piemonte, Dipartimento della Gioventù, is organizing the 2nd edition of the International Photography Exhibition “Il Mattone Rampante”.
Admission requirements and categories
The admission is open to photographers of any nationality (either professional or not), without any age or citizenship restrictions.
The works can only be presented by the author himself, who guarantees by registering to own all the property rights of the works and to not violate any existing law.
The works will be set under two categories:
- young – reserved to authors under 30 years old;
- senior – reserved to authors above 30 years old.
Aim and goal
The aim of the exhibition is to give visibility to new artists who - using traditional or digital photography- express themselves emphasizing and pointing out the multitude of the existing expressions in urban climbing.
The works should feature scenes of climbing on urban architectural structures, preferably without ropes and avoiding all the artificially made climbing walls. The works should present moments preceding or following the climbing, or details emphasizing aspects, emotions, or details of the proposed subject.
Artistic direction
The artistic direction is conferred to Massimiliano Sacchi.
The exhibition sets will be prepared by university students younger than 30 years, coming from the Humanistic Faculties in Turin.
Application rules
The photographers who are willing to participate to the selections should follow the instructions as indicated in the following web page :

deadline : 16 June 2010 - 15 August 2010 1 September 2010.
Every photographer is allowed to present a maximum of 4 photos ( black and white or color) for a total of 200MB (50MB per photo).
He/she should also submit the following data:
- First and last name of the author, title, year of the shooting , applied technique.
- Curriculum
- Authorization to The Street Boulder Italia Association for the usage of the works under any form and/or media.
- Self declaration stating that the photo is original
- Specification of the category: young or adult
The images should have a resolution suitable for printing on a 40 cm x 60 cm format.
Print and set preparation shall be paid by the Association.
Selection
Photos are selected by a committee using the following criterias: originality, inherency with the proposed subject, emotional strength, technical difficulty of the shot and of the athletic gesture, experimental character of the work.
Exhibition
The selection of the best 20 photos for each category will be exhibited in Turin from September to December 2010, in a group of exhibitions in different parts of the town. Exhibition shall start at the same time as the local Street Boulder Contest, planned for September 11th.
The best 20 selected photos for each category will also be exhibited in the home page gallery of the up-climbing.com portal for 30 days
Prize giving
The selected photos will be evaluated by a committee of members of the Street Boulder Italia Association, critics, experts from the art world and technicians. Such a committee will select the three best photos for each category thru their unchallengeable judgment.
The first place of the YOUNG category will receive 200 euros.
The second place of the YOUNG category will receive 100 euros.
The third place of the YOUNG category will receive 50 euros.
The authors of the first three works will receive an award certificate and a large visibility thru the Association channels.
Authorization
Each photographer:
- must be the owner of all the rights of the photos along with their possible manipulations
- is considered personally responsible for the subject of the submitted photos
- authorizes and grants the exhibition organizers , the full usage rights of the photos free of any charge and for any purpose, stating since now that he shall not ask for any kind of claim or compensation for any reason.
- by submitting his photos , and if not differently stated, authorizes the exhibition organizers to treat his personal data as to fulfill the photos’ selection requirements , their public exhibition and the publication of the selection results.
Usage
Selected photos will be used for promotional purposes, on any chosen form or
media, at the discretion of the organizers.
Deadlines and exclusions
All the images to be selected must be received before the 1st September 2010 25th August 2010 along with the participation form correctly filled.
The results of the selection will be published on the 25th August 2010 1st September 2010 on the web site

Not compelling to the rules including late submitting shall result into an exclusion.
Responsibility
The exhibition organizers discard all the responsibilities for any: steal, damage and loss that the photos may suffer.
Submission of the works to the organization implies the registration for the selection process and the complete acceptance of the rules presented in this announcement.

Note to non-italian readers: the name of the exibition is a fusion between the word "mattone" ("fire-brick") and the title of the book "Il Barone Rampante" (tanslated as "The Baron in the Trees" but with a similar meaning as "The Climbing Baron") by italian journalist and novelist Italo Calvino.
